You may recognise a familiar name in this quarter’s issue of TEST magazine. Our own Matthew Morris was asked to write an article about the role of testing tools within application modernization. You can read the article in full here on pages 24-27.
Writing this piece gave us a good opportunity to have a look at application modernization trends industry-wide, and what we found was now more than ever, this is a hot topic for businesses worldwide. Or, in the words of Forrester Consulting in their report Application Modernization and Migration Trends in 2009/2010;
“Modernizing legacy applications is cool again. 59% of IT leaders place modernization as the top software issue.”
Desynit has known for a long time now that testing tools hold the key to successful modernization efforts. With the next generation of automated testing here and able to operate in a code-free environment, it’s good news for the Legacy Crowd. There is no longer any need to scrap that perfectly good platform, which has been tailored to the business over the last 20 years. You can modernize what you have safe in the knowledge that with the right testing tools, you can make sure that the only changes you are making are the ones you really want.
In short the ability to test accurately and efficiently will free your business from the fear of 'what if?' And once you have the confidence that there will be no negative repercussions from your IT changes, then you start to make your systems deliver what your business needs today. Which is why it amazed us to discover that over 80% of testing carried out today is still manual.
