If you have logged into your Google Drive over the past week you may have noticed a few changes to the look and usability of your Drive. It may not come as a surprise, but Google Apps has been updated, this time focusing on the Google Drive UI. This is not the first change to Google Drive over the past few months, however this is the first nip and tuck designed to give a whole new feel to the entire Google Drive UI and not just your Google Docs.

So what can you expect?

1. Well first, you will notice that Shared with Me has now changed to Incoming and will view, just like before,  all of the files and folders that have been shared with you.

*Note: You won’t see files shared to a mailing list or files set to “Anyone with the link” or “Public” unless the file has been shared directly to your email address.

2. You can also click the icon within a document will take you to the new recent items layout.

3. Here your Google Documents will be listed in order that they were last opened.

4. You can change the display of these files so that you see a Grid view of the documents.

5. You can click the to create a new document.

6. You can sort your files e.g. Last edited, last opened etc.

7. You can upload and/or open files by clicking the  icon.

8. You also have the option to view Google Sheets and Slides and change your settings.

9. However, if you prefer to open, search and upload files via your Google Drive home page, then simply click the Drive icon to navigate home.

This new layout is available on your smartphones, iOS and Android tablets, as well as your Mac and Windows based laptops. However, it may not have been rolled out to everyone just yet so keep an eye out for it.

If you would like further information on Google Apps why not check out my Weekly Blog or if you want to talk to someone pop Desynit’s Shaun Holmes a call.

I’ll see you next week.
