Climbing mountains in the dark

Gary on a mountain

**UPDATE 22 June**

Gary was safely back in work on Monday morning, after completing the trek with Chris. Conditions at the peak were described as the ‘worst summer conditions seen in 20 years’ with 2 metres of snow to contend with. Suffice to say it was a very tough challenge, and we are very proud of the guys for making it. Gary is practically skipping up the Wells Road now on his way home these days, and is looking for his next adventure (well, maybe give it a few weeks…and then he will be).

Climbing Mountains in the Dark

You may think the title of this post is a work of metaphor. Perhaps you expect me to spend the next 300 words describing the pioneering struggle of the IT consultant, leading his clients to a digital pinnacle, from where the clear view consists of nothing but the cloud.

No.

Actually, in a few weeks time, I am actually climbing a mountain in the dark and I am really quite concerned.

Our former Salesforce Developer, Christopher Lewis, and I agreed way back in January that we would take on the โ€˜Ben Nevis at nightโ€™ challenge to raise money for Alzheimerโ€™s Society, Desynitโ€™s chosen charity for 2015.

That was back in January. As the months have elapsed, the prospect of a 1000m ascent along a gully strewn path IN THE DARK, has begun to sink in. Whatโ€™s more, Ben Nevis is currently under 2ft of snow…not quite the mid-summerโ€™s eve stroll we had in mind.

Ben Scary

Hey ho. Thereโ€™s no turning back now. Weโ€™ve been putting in good few training expeditions around the Brecon Beacons and the Mendips, invested in two head torches (each) and a compass and the flights are booked. Whatโ€™s more, our generous friends, colleagues and family have already sponsored us over ยฃ1,200. We couldnโ€™t be more delighted to be raising money for a great cause and one thatโ€™s so relevant to many of us with ageing loved ones..and you can still help us raise more)

How bad can it be? We work in IT. Itโ€™s just a scary steep learning curve, right?

Wish us luck. Weโ€™re going to need it. Oh, and please sponsor us too.
